HP MINI 110

Posted on | April 14, 2011 | No Comments

Mini PCs are a fading fad that are quickly getting replaced by tablets.  My HP Mini 110-1100 that I bought from Costco might be the next one to be replaced. But just not yet.  The first Ipad can run from $350-550 and the Ipad2 retails around $650-850 as you can see on the Amazon banner

A new HP Mini 110 costs around $300.  And it comes  as loaded as a Mini PC can:

Intel Atom 1.6 GHz

1 GB RAM

Windows 7 Starter

Wireless

I bought the HP Mini in December 2009 so its over 18 months old. The speed and ease of use of computers diminish quickly more than any other electronics over time. Downloading programs, files, and pictures tend to wear down the speed of nearly all PCs. There is almost always a difference between a new computer and a year old computer even if its the same computer. But the HP Mini has held over time. It was never that fast to begin with, so even if it is a shade slower you won’t even notice.

Bought it December 2009

Playstation 3

The PS3 is one of the granddaddies of video game consoles. Retailed in 2006, I was fortunate to find one under the Christmas tree in 2007. Now a game console is only good as the games it offers. Granted, the PS3 can play dvds, store pictures, music, surf the internet, but dedicated music/DVD players, and PC are far superior when it comes to these everyday tasks. Games are why we use the PS3. After four years of owning the “fat” PS3 the wear and tear is showing through the roar of the tired cooling fan and sticky controllers. There is nothing more frustrating than playing a FPS game and have your hero jump out of cover in a hail of bullets because your sticks on the controller could not handle three years of movement. Perhaps, its time to invest in a new controller. But at $60 a pop, a pair of controllers can wait.

Got a PS3 in Dec 2006

Nokia N8

NOKIA N8

Best Camera on the market. Speedy phone when you first buy it. However, Symbian 3 seems to still be in the early phases. After three sim cards in three countries, ten downloaded apps, loads of pics, lag shows up often. If your a consistent user of mobile phones, you will be resetting this one on a daily basis. But if your not, all a phone needs to do is text, call, and have the best camera out there. Thats the Nokia N8.

Bought it in January 2011
